Methodology
Academic performance data
Every academic statistic on Fammove comes from one canonical dataset: the Department for Education school performance tables. We publish figures exactly as they were published, per academic year, with the county and England averages alongside them.
How a release is published
1. Discover
We check the Department for Education downloads service for the newest published academic year. If discovery is unavailable, an administrator supplies the official file.
2. Download
The official CSV is retrieved in full. Nothing is scraped from web pages.
3. Validate
Eight checks run before anything is published: source, parsing, URN matching, recognised measures, value ranges, benchmark construction, historical preservation and national coverage.
4. Version
Each academic year becomes its own immutable release in our dataset register.
5. Publish
A release becomes public only when every blocking check passes.
6. Archive
The previous release is archived, never deleted, and can be restored.

We only show the measures that officially apply to a school's phase.

What we never do
- We never estimate, model or fill in a missing figure.
- Suppressed values are treated as "not published", never as zero.
- We never overwrite a historical academic year with a newer release.
- We never compare figures across different academic years or incomparable phases.
